Real Wedding: Lili & Andrew: Vintage Garden Party

Featured on the cover of Washingtonian B&G - Summer/Fall 2012
Our first clue that Lili & Andrew were a laid-back, fun loving couple was when they booked us for "day of" planning all the way from Florida.  They loved our portfolio and trusted us to tie up all their loose ends, execute their vision and make sure everything was in place on the big day. No in-person consultation or long distance phone call.  I love that they knew what they wanted and could make decisions - a planner's dream.  Our suspicions were confirmed when we found out that they were photographers and graphic designers with a knack for surfing, vinyl records, art and thrift store shopping.  They described their personal styles as retro-chic with a pop-punk edge.  How fun is that??  Not surprisingly, the two had a strong vision for what they pictured on their big day - a simple yet whimsical garden party, with a slight nod to Alice and Wonderland.  I love how much these two infused their personalities into every detail.  They even put a 50's spin on the garden party complete with an 18 piece swing band.  Their families are really into swing dancing, so after dinner there was a 15 minute swing lesson from their personal instructor.  This way all guests could participate and dance the night away in true swing style!  Jump down the rabbit hole with us for a few minutes to enjoy their fun wedding photos:

Pantone: Color of the Year!

We are pleased to announce the reddish-orange color that will be influencing the design industry in 2012!  As the Pantone news release put it, "[Tangerine Tango] is sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, an orange with a lot of depth to it” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.
I'm really liking it paired with this moody french blue.  What color will you pair Pantone 17-1463 with?

Wedding Inspiration: Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Listening?

It all started with picture No. 7 - that gorgeous Vermont barn wedding with tons of chandeliers and warm candlelight.  I love that they used several different chandelier styles for a very vintage/eclectic feel.  I have a serious weakness for rustic wood textures coupled with glamorous crystal.  Our lovely new intern created the board around this photo.  Take it away, Courtney!

With the holidays just around the corner and everyone getting in the spirit of the season, it seemed like the perfect time to peek at these cozy winter wedding inspirations.  Barns are superb venues to showcase a beautiful winter wonderland. This board sets the tone for a cozy yet sophisticated fête.  Hundreds of candles, sparkling champagne and glittering details are bound to create the perfect atmosphere to celebrate with family and friends.

Fave details:  this decadent chocolate Megeve wedding cake, named for a ski resort in Switzerland.      Also, the crafty to-go cups are a warm send off for your guests at the end of the evening.  Peppermint mocha, anyone?

Thanks Courtney!  I'm thinking a getaway sleigh for the bride and groom would just be the cherry on top of this pretty party.

Real Wedding: Hayley + James: Love Sets Sail

She's the editor of a local newspaper and he's a graphic designer.  They both grew up just miles from one another and even went to the same high school, but amazingly never met until they found each other online.  They both agreed they wanted their wedding to reflect their love of nature and the Chesapeake Bay, which played such an integral part of growing up around Gibson Island where they spent summers boating and hanging on the beach.  Gibson Island is a very small, private island about 45 minutes from Annapolis and accessible only by a gated bridge.  It's known for it's member's only country club, golf course, and amazing waterfront homes with perfectly manicured lawns.  They even have their own Gibson Island police force.  The picturesque club proved to be the perfect setting for the September ceremony and reception, where they infused a relaxed palette of french blue, sand and ivory into all the details.  This couple was so much fun to work with, and I loved all their creative ideas!
